Hello everyone. Welcome back to Prince Peach Productions. My name is Kam. Today we're gonna do an analysis of the popular and funny Korean TV ad made by Kleenex. The item being advertised is the protective face mask which has been flying off the shelves due to spikes in air pollution and the recent outbreaks of coronavirus.
I absolutely love love love this commercial. It's humorously glamorizing the highly coveted black mask. As you've witnessed in the commercial, the man fashionably walks into a room rocking a much better looking black mask as onlookers marvel. This has become somewhat of an inside joke in Korea where people would light-heartedly mock someone who wears a black mask, in reference to the commercial. I always admire commercials that have the power to make an impact on our culture and how we interact with one another. I believe it's marketing genius when your commercials result in ordinary people referencing your product in everyday conversations.
Let's go over some of the expressions highlighted here. The first one says in 'insa'. It is slang that stems from the word 'insider'. It's a person who is highly sociable, kinda like a social butterfly. The term has now evolved to 'insatem', which is a thing that is either highly coveted or popular with the in-crowd.
The next expression is black eedaesae, which means black is currently all the rage. It's a bit stronger than trend.
And finally, the third term is binteum ubshi milchak. Bibteum ubshi means no gap. And milchak means tightly fastened. So the mask is highly secured and snuggly fit.
Chickeuhagae can vary in nuance but in this scene, it means having a cool and unique quality about you. Jangchak means to equip as opposed to just wearing something. This term is used to add another level of importance to the mask.
It goes without saying the target demographic of this commercial is men. So the mysterious man, cool calm collected with long wispy hair, enters a barbershop and lights up the room while dazzling the barbers who are mesmerized by the presence of this glamorous black mask.
My final thought on this delightful ad is that it had sort of a Tik Tok feel to it. The humor definitely resonated with me, and I have definitely referenced this ad or was reminded of this ad upon seeing a black mask worn by others. Bottom line, super funny commercial and I enjoyed it tremendously. I believe it resonates with the general Korean population as well.
Well, that's it for today. Thank so much for watching my commercial reaction to the Kleenex black mask. If you haven't already, please please please hit like and subscribe and leave a comment. Hope you come back again and have a blessed day.
